To try to eliminate cockroaches yourself, you can try these home made mixes:
Boric acid roach bait mix: Use a safer homemade roach bait that is made by mixing equal parts powdered sugar, flour, and boric acid together. Sprinkle in backs of cabinets, under the sink, behind appliances, and in dark and moist areas cockroaches usually gather. Be careful when working with boric acid as it isn’t safe to inhale. I recommend measuring it while using gloves and wearing a mask. It definitely shouldn’t be used in a home where children would have access to the mixture. You can use it around the outside of your home, around crawl spaces, in an attic, or in the basement as well.
Baking soda & powdered sugar: A safer alternative to the one including boric acid is to use equal parts baking soda and powdered sugar. This can safely be sprinkled throughout your home without as much fear regarding children or pets ingesting it.
Crushed bay leaf: This herb that is often found in your pantry is a great deterrent. Crush a few bay leaves and sprinkle around areas you know cockroaches are gravitating toward. They hate the smell of bay leaves and will avoid these areas.
