PART I: Tick Bite Prevention Week
This year, Tick Bite Prevention Week will be celebrated from March 25th through March 31st. The purpose of this week is to raise awareness about the dangerous illnesses tick bites can cause and educate people about prevention techniques for themselves and their pets.
Tick bite prevention practices include:
- Avoid walking through tall grass and heavily wooded areas, as these are where ticks live.
- Wear high socks, closed-toe shoes, long-sleeved shirts, and long pants to avoid exposing skin to ticks. Opt for light-colored clothing that makes ticks easier to spot.
- Perform a thorough tick check on yourself, others, and pets after spending time outdoors before going inside. Remember, ticks often hide in warm spots on the body. For pets with thick or dark fur, consider using a lint roller to check for ticks.
- Upon returning indoors, toss your clothes in the dryer on high for 10 minutes to remove any attached ticks.
