On June 2nd, a mosquito in York County tested positive for the West Nile virus, and officials say a positive test this early in the season has only happened once before. The positive test was the first in the Susquehanna Valley this year. By the end of the summer, a majority of Pennsylvania counties will likely have a West Nile presence, but the state is hoping to keep human infection low. The state’s physician general said people should wear bug spray while outside, and empty containers of standing water where mosquitoes can breed.
