A 21-year-old man was rescued by firefighters after he was attacked by a swarm of bees while hiking in Laguna Nigel.
The man was breathing but in a pain with about 30 bee stings. He was taken by a helicopter to a nearby hospital, fire officials said.
“He stated there was over a thousand bees,” said Capt. Marc Stone of the Orange County Fire Authority.
The man was in fair condition and told rescuers he was not allergic to bees, Stone said. He called 911 and was treated near St. Croix and Curacao.
Stone said he did not know what type of bees attacked the man.
