Recently in the news it has been reported that due to the heavy pollution in the Yamuna River that flows around the Taj Mahal in India, there are large numbers of insects that are breeding on the land of the Taj Mahal and leaving droppings all over the place.
Due to all of the insects leaving such a mess, the white walls are turning green. This is happening specifically to the Taj Mahal because the insects are attracted to the color white, and the entire building is white.
The insect responsible for this is called the genus Geoldichironomis. This insect survives best in hot climates and lives off of the algae in the polluted river.
